Audition Preparation
What to expect in your audition.
First of all, relax. This is not a high pressure situation.
We will ask you to sing a song of your choice a cappella. Choose something that shows your talent and personality.
Then, we'll take you through a couple of vocal exercises to test your vocal range in both pitch and sound quality (timbre). Rhythm is also important for this vocal band, so we will also do some rhythm exercises.
We'll ask you to listen to some music and then sing along with it. We'll provide some music. In this part, we are trying to understand how you best learn music quickly. Reading music helps but is not the be all, end all. Often, we do auditions before rehearsals, so that we can try out what you just learned in the rehearsal with the other members to see how well you blend in.
You'll be judged on your overall vocal quality and presentation, as well as intonation and musicality. In the end, our choices will also depend on what voice parts we need to cover the various large arrangement configurations, and how well you fit in with the other members. So vocal flexibility helps.
